Preserving Our Green Spaces
Gerrards Cross Conservation Group
Stand with us to protect the natural beauty of Gerrards Cross — our green spaces, our Green Belt, and our Conservation Areas.
We are prepared to face both the challenges we see today and those still to come, and together we can make a lasting difference.
The Green Belt : Under threat
“The Government attaches great importance to Green Belts.
The fundamental aim of Green Belt policy is to prevent urban sprawl by keeping land permanently open; the essential characteristics of Green Belts are their openness and their permanence.”
(Section 142, National Planning Policy Framework December 2024, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.)
It feels like 'open season' for developers right now. The latest example is a 400-home scheme proposed for a site well within the Green Belt near the A40 and Bull Lane—and it won't be the last. However, these incursions are unnecessary; Buckinghamshire Council has already allocated suitable, non-Green Belt land to meet the Government’s housing quotas.

SDC M40 Data Centre Campus
Wapseys Wood is a Green Belt site that should have been returned to woodland and farming in the year 2000, but still remains a waste site. Now, there's a plan to build a massive data centre requiring around 300MW of power and associated cooling.

Our Conservation Areas & Neighbourhood Plan
Conservation Areas : Under threat
Gerrards Cross has two conservation areas covering much of the town.
Yet we are aware of cases where Buckinghamshire Council have failed to take enforcement action in cases of unpermitted development within our Conservation Areas.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
What Can We Do ?
From the Local Authority to the Secretary of State, the planning journey is fraught with political influence—as GX residents know only too well from the July 1998 decision that ultimately led to the collapse of the railway tunnel and the blockage of the Chiltern mainline for months during the summer of 2005.
GXCG’s mission is to prevent history repeating itself. We will challenge at every stage, using our funds to hire elite planning consultants and barristers and, where necessary, seeking Judicial Review by invoking the Aarhus Convention.
